Thesis Abstract

Discover the transformative journey of urban revitalization in Porz district located in south of Cologne. The thesis delves into the intricate process of rejuvenating historic city centers, particularly focusing on Poll quarter, guided by a vision of creating vibrant, sustainable, and resilient urban environments. Drawing inspiration from the principles of the compact city theory, the project explores a comprehensive set of design strategies aimed at enhancing livability, promoting economic vitality, and fostering community engagement. From active frontage and enhanced public transport to place-making initiatives and green infrastructure, this research highlights the transformative potential of collaborative action and innovative design in shaping the cities of tomorrow. The work contributes to potential journey of re imagining the future of Poll and Porz, creating vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable urban spaces for generations to come.
