Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the Transforming City Regions Master’s program, applicants must fulfill the following:

University Degree

1st university degree, required qualifications according to the examination regulations (PO).

Proficiency in English according to PO

Minimum B2 level according to CEFR. Accepted certificates include:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based Test (IBT) with  a result of at least 90 points
  • IELTS test with a score of at least 5.5
  • Cambridge Test Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
  • First Certificate in English (FCE) with a grade of at least B
  • A certificated of English language skills at level B2 of the “Common Europeans Framewprk of Reference of Language” (GeR) *1
  • Placement test of the RWTH Language Center with the level B2 (MK 7) *2

Portfolio

  • The portfolio complements the module description and should demonstrate your experience in spatial-related fields. The format is free, but you are encouraged to be creative in how you present and communicate the content. It may also include a CV and a personal statement of motivation. The only restriction is that it should not exceed 20 pages.
  • The portfolio must be produced entirely in English and upload through RWTH Online
  • Please note that no documents will be accepted by e-mail and that it is not necessary to send a hard copy by post.

*1- A certificate, certifying English skills at the B2 level of the Common European Frame of Reference for Languages, CEFR. This certificate can be a German Abitur certificate, where it is clear that a student completed English till the end of Qualification Phase 1 – that is grade 11 for the G8 Abitur, otherwise grade 12 – and completed the subject with a least sufficient performance.

*2- Only students who are enrolled at RWTH Aachen University can take part in this exam.

Fees and Living Costs

No Tuition Fees – There are no tuition fees at RWTH Aachen University – this applies to international students as well! All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee.
