General Information about Transforming City Regions

The European Master of Science programme TRANSFORMING CITY REGIONS (TCR) is a unique, interdisciplinary Master programme with a strong focus on European territorial development. It was launched in October 2019 and is one of the few programmes designed anew at RWTH Aachen University. The programme is taught in English and was designed to respond to environmental, social, technological, and economic challenges, which evolving European cities and regions are facing.

Academic Approach

The programme focuses on project-and-design-oriented education and it integrates many disciplines in order to educate professionals being able to respond to European territorial challenges. Graduates are equipped with not only recent and solid knowledge but also with tools and methodologies that will help them face problems of changing European cities and regions. The engineering and design-oriented profile of the graduates, despite clear interdisciplinary orientation, is deeply rooted in the tradition of the Faculty of Architecture at RWTH Aachen University, which also gives a strong identity to the programme.

Programme Structure and Curriculum

The programme consists of a wide range of courses covering current topics of urban planning and design. Within four semesters the students learn theoretical backgrounds and methodological skills. The knowledge is applied in three different integrated projects, as well as the master thesis. There are several elective courses to be chosen from within the faculty and the further pool of RWTH wide courses.

Portfolio

The portfolio complements the module description and should demonstrate your experience in spatial-related fields. The format is free, but you are encouraged to be creative in how you present and communicate the content. It may also include a CV and a personal statement of motivation. The only restriction is that it should not exceed 20 pages.
The portfolio must be produced entirely in English and upload through RWTH Online

Fees and living costs

No Tuition Fees – There are no tuition fees at RWTH Aachen University – this applies for international students as well! All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee.
